This weekend our own JRHS NJROTC went out to compete in one of the last competitions of the season. At Green Run high school, in northern Virginia, the exhibition drill teams, PT team, and academic team all brought their “A” game.
The Exhibition drill teams did very well bringing in a third place in armed exhibition, and second in unarmed exhibition. Our academic team scored first overall against several teams who had previously been in national competitions! Top individual scores were Cadet Thomas Shashaty and Cadet Clark Brandau, tied for third with the top scorer Cadet Quinn Lily. The PT team scored third place in push-ups and second place in sit-ups. In the 100m relay we did not place, but the performance overall was stellar. The 200m race was cancelled due to dangerous track conditions.
Congratulations to all the teams on an outstanding performance, keep up the good work and hope for Area 5 competition coming up! Bravo Zulu!

We are happy to end off our competitive season on such a high note and would like to dedicate our victory to Cadet Hayden, the senior who was critically injured in December in a tragic accident. Hoorah, cadets! Job well done!
On Saturday, 11 February, the JRHS NJROTC Drill Team traveled to Lee-Davis High School to compete in the Lee-Davis Drill Meet. Hoping to end off the season on a high note, the cadets put forth a good showing, gaining points in Uniform Personnel Inspection and placing third in Armed Basic and Second in Color Guard. Despite some difficulties involving scoring, which were rectified with the help of cadets Willett and Popp, the meet ran well and the cadets enjoyed themselves. Whether or not our unit makes it to Area Five Championships at this point, we can certainly say that this season was a good one! Hoorah, cadets! Job well done!
On February 4th, JRHS NJROTC drill team traveled to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek/Fort Story in Norfolk to compete in the Princess Anne Cavalier Drill Meet. Held at the same venue used for Area 5 Drill Championships, the team placed sixth against 10 other top tier teams, including three teams who placed in Nationals last year. Although our teams did not bring home any trophies, Armed Exhibition gained 16 points in the two-event tally, while Armed Standard matched their best score for the season! Hoorah, cadets! Job well done!
On Saturday, 10 December, 2016, the JRHS Drill Team traveled to King George High School in King George County, VA, to compete in the King George Drill Meet. Facing stiff competition from many other units (including a Marine Corps ROTC unit), our teams performed quite well. The UPI team secured a second place finish, our highest placing this season in that event, and Cadets May and Willett were two of ten finalists in a game of armed knockout (which, despite not being a scored event, managed to raise morale). This meet was a good way to end off the 2016 calendar year; however, there’s still a few more months left on the road to Area 5 Championships. Keep checking our website for more information on how our unit is doing.
On Saturday, 12 November, the Drill and Athletic teams traveled to Osbourne Park High School to compete in the Osbourne Park Combined Meet. The teams put out a good showing at this final combined meet of this year’s season, placing Third in both Academics and the 8x200m Relay. Cadet LTjg Zachary Popp also tied for Second Place in the individual Academic score category. Despite not bringing home as many trophies as usual, the Drill and PT teams still managed to gain points toward the Area 5 two-event tally in many events, including UPI. Congratulations to all Cadets who stuck out the long day!
On Saturday, 22 October, JRHS NJROTC traveled to Potomac High School in Prince William County to compete in the Second Annual Potomac Combined Meet. Facing tough competition from some of Area Five’s top units, the unit secured a first place win in Unarmed Exhibition Drill and a third place finish in overall drill. Hoorah Cadets! Job well done!
On 15 October, 2016, JRHS NJROTC hosted the fifth annual Knock Off the Rust drill meet. Despite preparations for homecoming and AMI, the unit was able to keep the meet running smoothly. BZ to all cadets and parents who came out to assist with the meet. Results are listed below.
HOORAH to the Drill, Academic, and PT teams on their outstanding performance for the 2015-2016 season! As this is the unit’s first year at Area 5 Championships, we look forward to an even better year next year!
On Friday, 18 March, the unit held an All-Company Formation. During the formation, Principal Ellick spoke to the Cadets about the unit’s impressive performance at Area 5 Championships and was presented with the Second Place Academic trophy earned at Area. Also featured was a performance by the Unarmed Exhibition team, which preceded several awards, including the frocking of Cadets Jack Pearcy, Spencer Willett, and Meily Yong to the rank of Cadet Seaman (E-3) and Cadet Daniel Cappiello to Cadet Petty Officer Third Class (E-4). In addition, the Company Staff roster for the 2016-2017 Academic Term was announced.
